The New Moon in Aries: Just Do It

Header

"We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration. Inspiration seldom generates action." -Frank Tibolt

This morning I'm writing my column from Jonesboro, Arkansas. What the heck am I doing here? Every year at this time I visit the mid-south to celebrate the birthdays of my two dearest friends who are both Aries. Each one of them is unique and yet they share similar traits that clearly express the fiery and cardinal energy of this sign. Both of them have the ability to face challenges head on, channel their boundless energy in new and creative ways, and approach life clearly and directly without reservation or pause.

For a "go with the flow" Pisces like myself I admire them both and am amazed at their accomplishments. And when faced with my own challenges I often stop and ask myself what they might do in a similar situation. Often times the answer is "just do it!" and I muster the courage to take the next step.

The Astrology of the New Moon

The new moon occurs on Wednesday, April 13, 2010 at 24° of Aries. Fiery, energetic, and childlike, Aries is the sign of spring and represents the life force, pushing forward, to establish itself in the world. It's the big bang of creation that initiates a cycle of expansion and growth. Therefore, this is a favorable time begin a new project, face a new challenge, or just stand up and be counted.

The new moon is sextile to Neptune at 27° Aquarius. Whatever we begin over the next few days may be fueled by our vision, ideals, or compassion. Neptune is also the spiritual/creative energy that can't really be quantified or explained, but which inspires us and gives meaning to our actions. If you feel compelled to take action when the spirit moves you, just do it. Don't judge your impulse to act, just act. Like the quotation at the top of this article, sometimes inspiration follows our actions. This is why ritual can be such a powerful spiritual tool- we act first in order to manifest spirit/inspiration.

Five Reasons To See An Astrologer This Year (or "Is It Time To Take Your Astrological Pulse?")

"Formerly, when religion was strong and science weak, men mistook magic for medicine; now, when science is strong and religion weak, men mistake medicine for magic." -Thomas Szasz

This morning I made an appointment with my physician for my yearly physical. Okay, well sort of yearly. It can be easy to let a regular exam slide when one is feeling good and doesn't have any reason to think his health has changed significantly in the last year. But in the long run I know it's better to be preventative, proactive, and responsible, so I go. If nothing else it offers the peace of mind that all is well.

I also don't mind my yearly physical because I am healthy and it makes the experience of seeing a doctor much easier and more pleasant. I may be asked to eat more vegetables or have a thimbleful less of red wine each week, but those are fairly humane prescriptions. Some folks will only visit a doctor when they're very ill. At that point it's difficult and unpleasant for both the patient and the doctor. And it tends to be much more expensive in terms of money and more costly in terms of physical, emotional, and spiritual stress.

Astrology presents a unique marketing challenge for professionals who are building a practice. And that's because most people may not even know why they might want to see an astrologer in the first place, let alone the value in yearly visits. These people may be unclear about the kinds of help or information available to them through their chart. From understanding vocational direction to the kinds of people one might attract, there are many proactive pronouncements we can offer a client to help awaken him or her to the deeper stirrings of soul.
