The May New Moon in Gemini: Make Your Words Golden

"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something." Plato (427 BC - 347 BC)

An important tip to remember when negotiating is to make your point and then keep quiet. Good negotiators know when to stop talking and, generally, the party who can't keep quiet will be the one who ends up compromising the most.

The new moon occurs on May 24, 2009 at 8:11 AM (EDT) at 3 degrees of Gemini. Gemini is an air sign with a focus on communication, learning, and dexterity. However, the new moon is making a challenging aspect, which I'll cover a bit later. First let's look at the basics.

The energy mix for this month has four planets in mutable signs and four planets in air signs, which translates to the sign of Gemini. Mutable means changeable and easily influenced. With Gemini there are always two sides of the story to consider and mutability makes it easy to flip flop between them.

Gemini represents the twins- two worlds, two ideas, a dialog. It bridges the inner world of the mind and outer world of reality. I've often observed Gemini's making a statement only to repond to themselves with the opposite statement ("I'm fat. No, I'm not fat!"). Thoughts need to be expressed to be fully realized, considered, and addressed.

That in itself isn't problematic. But looking at the chart for this new moon we find the Sun and Moon in Gemini is challenged by Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius. Generally when planets are in the same element (in this case air) they get along. However, in this case the new moon is at the beginning of Gemini while the Jupiter-Neptune pair is at the end of Aquarius putting them close to 90 degrees apart... Continue reading...

Ask the Astrologer: "I'm at a crossroads..."

"Hello! I left an HR Managment career 4 years ago due to apathy in my job which involved a tremendous amount of traveling. In reality, I became sick from overwork and found my life hollow. I stayed home for a year trying to rebuild my confidence and decide a new life purpose. I was offered a job in the teaching field and have been there for the last two years. I enjoy the work but find that it still may not be enough for me. I am thinking about pursuing a masters degree in counseling but find my self undecisive and, to be honest, afraid of making the wrong decision. I am at a crossroads. I have life balance now but I am severly underpaid for job and the talents I know I have. Please help." -Rachel

Thanks for writing in, Rachel. Making a career transition can certainly be a stressful time and I understand your situation, having gone through it myself (a few times!). In astrology there are a few places we look in the chart to help someone uncover what they're most suited to do. And we can "progress" the chart to see how you, as an individual, will change and grow over time. Taken together the natal chart and the progressed chart help us to piece together a map you can use to navigate during this time.

In the natal chart the cusp, or beginning, of the 10th house is called the midheaven (or MC) and is found right at the top of the wheel. The MC describes how we want to be viewed by society. Put another way it's our career- what we want to be known for. With Leo, a fire sign, on the cusp of your 10th house, Rachel, you need to work in field where you can be recognized for your unique talents. Working behind the scenes won't bring your happiness. Creativity, passion, and acclaim need to be part of what you do... Continue reading...
